My Position at Thomas Cook in PeterboroughI was here 1994 This was a contract position, my contract was renewed twice. I was using VB3, SQL, DB2, VB-Tools and PVCS My main project was a Foreign Exchange Traveller's Cheque system. The role involved the development of a foreign exchange system for both cash and travellers cheques using VB, Access and DB2. I was particularly involved in the linking of the system to a back-end server in the form of DB2/2 running on an IBM Mainframe using ODBC and interfacing to programs written in ‘C’ to provide extra functionality. I implemented a task-switching system to enable an over-large VB application to be split into smaller independent EXEs while keeping a completely seamless appearance to the users of the system. I produced a program in VB to automatically generate databases both for the Access MDB and the IBM/DBM-DB2/2 with built-in relationships and relational integrity working from a data-dictionary type document. I produced a program to enable a system written in VB to easily operate in several foreign languages and be switched between them. |
